My name is Daniel Williams. I was born in 1950, and I've lived all my life as a private citizen - until now. With their approval ratings at record lows, it is painfully obvious our two-party political system is no longer working. And it seems equally obvious that Democrats and Republicans have no desire to change the status quo. What is needed now more than ever is a strong third party to change the equation. Which is why I'm running as the Libertarian Party candidate for president in 2008.
And while I am asking all Americans to join me as new Libertarians, I'm focusing on the almost 80 million eligible voters who did not participate in the 2004 election. The vast majority are between the ages of 18 and 40 - and shouldn't be sleeping very well at night. For over the next 25 years..your peak earning years.. you will be held financially responsible for funding our government, one that is already dangerously deep in debt. And with the additional obligation of supporting 77 million baby boomers just now beginning to retire, getting any sleep at all may be difficult.
My policies wil go a long way to minimize your financial burden, allowing you to keep more of your money while providing all Americans a freer and safer and more prosperous future. Much of what I propose is based upon common sense and entirely doable. It is just that Congress simply lacks the courage and political will to act in our collective best interest. As a third-party president, I will not be beholden to Democrats or Republicans, or their special interest lobbyists. And from that unique position, I believe ignoring the extreme wings of both parties, while embracing the many moderates within, is the winning strategy for accomplishing what America needs.
A quick personal story will help illustrate my thinking. I am amazed at the many advances cellular phone technology has made in the 20 years or so since coming to the marketplace. Many of you are too young to remember those early days, but I was involved almost from the start. At first, the business was split between the public phone companies and private entrepreneurs, creating a duopoly- very similar to our two-party political system. For us- just like the Democrats and Republicans- business was very good, as we had only one competitor. But our customers suffered from this lack of choice, and innovation was not a priority. It wasn't until third-party players were allowed into the game that the incredible advances we now take for granted came into being. That very same dynamic is what's needed in our political system, and I believe my years as a cellular phone executive give me the experience and skills required to make it happen.
I invite you to spend a little time reviewing my policies. And if you agree they will help America become the freest and safest and most prosperous country of the 21st century, please make a small donation and join me as a new Libertarian.
